Monsignor James Hutton ~ Pastor
Our Pastor is Fr. James (Jim) Hutton. He was born in Sudbury in 1940 and raised in Creighton Mines, Ontario. After highschool (St. Charles College, Sudbury), he went to St. Peter’s Seminary where he completed degree courses in Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained to the Order of Presbyters (priest) in St. Michael’s Church, Creighton Mines on May 12, 1966. On May 12th, 2016, Msgr Hutton, surrounded by his family, Parish and members of the Ecumenical Christian community celebrated his 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Order of Presbyters.

• 1971 – 74 Founder and first Executive Director of Telecare, Sault Ste. Marie

• 1983 – 2000 Pastor, St. Jerome’s Parish, Sault Ste. Marie
• 2000 – Pastor, St. Patrick’s Parish, Sudbury
In his years of ministry, after completion of an M.A. in Theology in 1972, with emphasis on Liturgical Studies (University of Notre Dame, Indiana), Fr. Hutton served as Diocesan Co-ordinator of Liturgy (English Sector) for 21 years. Fr. Hutton has also been involved over the years in ecumenical and interfaith ministries. He is currently a Diocesan representative to the Ontario Catholic Conference for Ecumenism.
Rev. Mr. Denis O’Donnell ~ Deacon
Denis was ordained a Permanent Deacon of the Diocese of Sault St. Marie on June 20, 1987 and has been active in Ministry at St. Patrick’s Parish since his family joined the parish in 1978. Susan and Denis have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Rev. Mr. O’Donnell has been the Bishop’s representative on the St. Joseph’s Health Care Center Board of Directors since 2009. Denis greatly enjoys celebrating the mixed marriages in the parish and Baptisms outside Mass. He is a member of the Parish Pastoral Advisory Council (PPAC), the Liturgy Committee, the Bereavement Team and Knights of Columbus.
Denis was involved with his children as a soccer coach, a cub and beaver leader and enjoyed beekeeping with his daughter for 17 years until the black bears won out.
Mr. O’Donnell is a Professional Geoscientist and is still called upon to consult as a Senior Rock Mechanics Specialist. He has been active in geological and rock mechanics professions for 44 years always placing the strongest emphasis on safety for all.
Denis completed his university education during evenings through Laurentian University’s Extension Division while working. In 1978 he received a BSc in Geology and in 1999 he was awarded an MSc in Structural Geology and Rock Mechanics. Denis is active in the Canadian Mining and Rock Mechanics community on a national level, having chaired the Canadian Institute of Mining Rock Engineering Society 2005-2007 and CARMA the Canadian Rock Mechanics Association in 2006. He was on the executive of both societies for 10 years. Denis is also a member of the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM) and was a member of the Quebec society of Explosive Energy (SEEQ).
He now wonders why he can’t seem to find as much time as he should; for carpentry, skiing, fishing, canoeing and hiking.
Cynthia Mack ~ Parish Secretary/Office Manager
Our newest employee Cynthia Mack, started with us in fall of 2016 and is covering a Maternity leave of our permanent Parish Secretary/Office Manager. Cynthia has brought much pastoral experience with having worked years in the Funeral Service Industry and more recently, as a Personal Support Worker. Cynthia and her husband James have two children Paige and Austin.
Vilija Tassone ~ Office Assistant
Vilija’s role in the parish has grown over the years. In September 2006 she began working in the parish office as Lorrie’s assistant. She is a talented singer and presently leads the Saturday 4:30 p.m. Mass choir as well as the Funeral Choir. She is very involved in the Pastoral Care Ministry and attends most Funeral Vigils for those whose funeral is celebrated in our parish. She also brings Eucharist to the Sick and Homebound and co-ordinates the monthly devotion of the Rosary. She and her husband, Bruno have been long time members of our parish and have three children, Christopher, Tania and Alina.
Dennis Ongaro – Custodian
Dennis has been on our staff since September of 2011. In that time he has made his mark as the guy to go to regarding the building and setting up for the various parish events. He is a member of the Parish Building and Grounds Committee. He and his wife Susan have just welcomed a new granddaughter, their first.
Brenda was initially hired in 1998 as a pastoral worker focused primarily with Youth Ministry and Confirmation. Brenda is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University with a Diploma in Ministries and a Certificate in Youth Ministry. Over the years her portfolios have expanded to include co-ordinator of Liturgical Music and she brings to this ministry years of professional voice, performing arts and liturgical music study and experience. Brenda is a CWL member and active with the Catholic Organization for Development and Peace and includes the work of D&P as a strong component of the youth ministry offerings. Brenda and husband Sean are involved parishioners where they’ve been co-parenting their four children in the faith since 1996.
Yvonne has followed in her mother’s footsteps as our parish Sacristan. She has held this position since November 2009. She & her husband Eric, have 1 son. Matthew and Natalie have recently given Yvonne & Eric a new grandson, Hudson. Yvonne is also our hall kitchen monitor.
