We are responsible for Faith In Action in our parish community. This includes providing information about the work of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace-Caritas: Share Lent and the Fall Campaign, and support of the Inner City Home.
Inner City Home:
Father Don McMillan (pastor at St. Patrick from 1979 to 1988) is known as the founder of Inner City Home. His vision was to establish a Crisis Drop-in Centre and Home of Hospitality for those who were less fortunate and needed to tell their story. His vision began when he offered coffee and fellowship to the homeless population in the Saint Patrick basement.
Father Don, Sister Patricia Kennedy and the generous hands-on and financial support of St. Patrick parishioners led to the purchase of a permanent home for Inner City Home – 251 Elm Street. The doors were opened in April 1986.
The ministry expanded to include emergency food bank services for families and individuals, crisis support and life skills programs. Mary Ali – who is a parishioner at St Patrick, was the first director. Mary retired in 2019. Caroline Mullen is the current Administrator. Many parishioners – too numerous to name – have given their time – meeting with people and listening to their stories, working in the food bank, serving on the Board of Directors, providing and assisting with workshops, and contributing their time and talent to fundraisers. Joe Drago is President of the Board of Directors. Yovita Gwekwewere is a member of the Board and represents our faith community.
